      Picante de Carne

This is a favorite dish at Mama Charo's house. You can get the Aji Panca at a Mexican grocery store. You can also substitute your favorite sauce or hot sauce. This is also great the next day. 1/2-1 lb pounds beef loin, cut in small pieces 3 potatoes, chopped finely 1/2 red onion, chopped finely 1/2 cup peas 2 carrots, chopped finely 1/2 cup corn 2 cloves minced garlic 3 Tlbs Aji panca (or hot sauce of your choice to taste) 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro 1 Tlbs salt

Stars & Strikes goes to Peru

I just wanted to share with everybody how impactful my recent trip to San Juan de Lurigancho was. I was blessed to have with me my wife Carolyn, and my brother in law Eric (Director of Payroll at Stars and Strikes) and his mom Edith as well as my business partner's children, Lindsay and Joe Albano. I am always amazed at how much impact a couple of people can have in just a few days. In less than one week we were able to build 5 new structures: 3 homes for some amazing famil

For the first time, Make a Miracle had an all men's team travel to Peru. To be honest this gave me a lot of stress. I won't be there...who would get them breakfast in the morning? Who would tell them what Miracle t-shirt to wear? Who would hold the keys to Casa Pat? Who would make sure the lights were turned off when they left? I am not really a control freak but these are just some of the things I do on our Team trips. They couldn't possibly do it without me, right? As

“But isn’t it dangerous?” This is a question that I continuously am asked as I tell people about the work that I have the privilege of doing in San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima, Peru. Most people seem to immediately jump to concern for me and my safety as I am serving 3,000 miles away from home. While I am so beyond thankful to have people in my life who want to look after me and protect me, this question really leaves me unsettled. San Juan de Lurigancho is one of 43 districts

      Beneath the Surface

The first time I came to San Juan De Lurigancho was 2009 and I immediately fell in love with everything about it. The people, the sounds, the smell (most people would disagree on that one) all took a hold of my heart and, ever since then, it’s been hard to keep me away. The first few times I came down here I was so focused on helping the people of Peru with “typical missionary tasks”. What buildings need to be painted? Who needs to be prayed for? What supplies can I pass out?

      Team Miracle in Peru

Make a Miracle traveled to San Juan de Lurigancho in February for a week filled with activities. One of the highlights was teaming up with Reimagine to build a home for a family. Our team of 35-40 people (almost all of our scholarship students pitched in) hauled pieces of an entire home up approximately 170 stairs in 85 degree heat! We were blessed to be helped by some men who saw us and wanted to join in the action. We found out they were recovering drug addicts and Dean

How can $200 amount to hope?

Last year Make a Miracle helped Nereyda (pictured left above) start a small business in her Peruvian community named "Paradise." We gave her some money along with a business mentor and she opened a small shop that sells school supplies & gifts. She is a proud woman who insisted on repaying the money little by little, which of course I agreed to. I met with her this week to talk with her and receive the $200 she has already saved up from her profits. This was a proud moment

      The evolution of Basilia...be bold.

Meet Basilia. Basilia was born into a poor family of eleven children in the mountains of Peru. Her parents were so poor that they brought her and some of her siblings to a girl's home (Hope House) in the district of Lima in the hope of a better future. I met her when she was about to turn 18, the age when you were forced to leave the Hope House. Joy and Don Norris, American missionaries living in Peru at the time and were bold in asking short term missionaries to help th
