Breaking Ground on Miracles

by Jack Canouse

Recently I was in San Juan de Lurigancho after 15 months of border closures and mandatory quarantines. I spent a week catching up with our Peruvian friends and family, blessing soup kitchens and homes, honoring graduates and best of all, breaking ground on the Miracle Wellness Center, or Casa de Bienestar.

On a warm afternoon my wife Carolyn and I went to the community of San Antonio de Padua, and along with our Make a Miracle team, the community leaders, and 25 of our scholarship students, we blessed and officially broke ground on this amazing project.

Our vision: a safe place that offers free medical, dental, veterinary and mental health help to the residents of the hill communities in San Juan de Lurigancho. This is the largest, and most impoverished, district of Lima, Peru. The average monthly income per family is $192, which leaves no margin for healthcare. Our goal is wellness through education. I am honored to be a part of this worthy project this will not only save lives, but will improve the lives of so many. We look forward to the grand opening of our center in the fall of this year. Thank you to everyone who donated to help make this possible.
