Peruvian hot chocolate

Thank you Rachel Canouse for sharing your recipe for homemade hot chocolate. You can adjust the amounts to be sweeter, thicker, more spicy...it's totally up to you.


100% Cacoa Bar, or a semi-sweet chocolate bar, broken up

1 can evaporated milk

2 cinnamon sticks

5 cloves

2-3 cups water, or to taste

1 tsp vanilla

3 Tlbs sugar, or to taste


Heat water, cinnamon sticks and cloves in a small saucepan. Boil for a few minutes, then add the chocolate a ladle full at a time. Continue adding chocolate and stir until melted. Slowly add the milk, vanilla & sugar. Stir well, and remove cinnamon sticks & cloves. Serve warm.
